Star Wars: The Dark Nest Trilogy

This series serves to tie up a few loose ends that were left open after The New Jedi Order series.  It introduces us to a 'new' species of beings "The Killks", who are an insectoid race that has been around from since the beginning of the galaxy.

While not as sweeping and grand as The NJO series, this was a very satisfying and exciting trilogy.  It sets up well what I hope will be a great adventure in the Legacy of the Force series.

But right now, I've just started Darth Bane: Dynasty of Evil, so LotF will have to wait a week or so.

Star Wars New Jedi Order

This is for Donna.  She couldn't get into the whole NJO series, but she wants to read the highlights because she REALLY likes the Darth Bane books.  So I'm going to give links to all of the Wikipedia summaries here and tell you/her which ones I think are the best so that she can read those.

Vector Prime - I thought this one was really good, my wife not so much.  But you should read it anyway just to know how this whole thing starts
Dark Tide I: Onslaught
Dark Tide II: Ruin
Agents of Chaos I: Hero's Trial - I thought these were really good, because they bring Han back into the mix.
Agents of Chaos II: Jedi Eclipse
Balance Point -  Here we see Jacen's trouble with the Force.
Recovery -  An e-novella that just provides a bit of back story.  It is included in the paper back copy of Star by Star.
Edge of Victory I: Conquest - Both of the Edge of Victory books are details about Anakin, and are pretty essential if you want to feel the weight of "Star by Star"
Edge of Victory II: Rebirth - See above.
Star by Star - The longest book of the series, and a MUST READ.  Really have to read this if you want to understand the Solo children and what happens to them after this.  Plus it is just an epic ride.
Dark Journey
Enemy Lines I: Rebel Dream
Enemy Lines II: Rebel Stand
Traitor - MUST READ!!! In my opinion, the best of the entire series.  This is a pivotal moment for Jacen.  One that will change his destiny forever.
Destiny's Way -  Further insight into Jacen's mind.  Along with the fate of the galaxy.
Ylesia - Short e-novella that I haven't actually finished yet. Not a necessary part of the story.  But what I've read has been good.
Force Heretic I: Remnant
Force Heretic II: Refugee
Force Heretic III: Reunion
The Final Prophecy -  Should read.
The Unifying Force - MUST READ.  That is if you cared about any of the previous books.  This one wraps it all up.

The New Jedi Order Series

I've just finished The New Jedi Order Series! Yes, just about a year ago, I started the New Jedi Order series, and now, 10 months and 19 books and 2 eBooks later, I have completed it. I know that the series has its detractors but I am not among that group. I loved this series. What a thrill ride it was!

Some reviewers have said that the series was too dark. It was dark alright, but that's precisely what gave it its edge. I knew that Chewbacca was to die in this series, but I had no idea when. I was shocked that it happened in the first book, "Vector Prime". But it was a very moving, emotional moment. The way that Han dealt with Chewie's death, or didn't as the case may have been, was a very poignant piece of writing, I thought. Being a parent myself, I found it heart-wrenching the way that Han pushed away Anakin because of his blaming him for Chewbacca's death.

I will continue with a full rundown of the entire series soon. Stay tuned!

The Clone Wars Returns with its 2nd Season!

Unlike many of my die hard SW geek fans, I for one really enjoyed season one of The Clone Wars, and I also enjoyed the movie. Now, I won't say that I didn't have small quibbles here and there with some of the plot devices, but overall just the chance to watch new Star Wars dramas unfold on a weekly basis was enough quell any of the dark side tendencies.

And now we have a whole new season with which to look forward. Cad Bane looks to be a formidable opponent and I'm very much looking forward to the Jedi and clones matching wits with him. I would like to know if the the name Bane was borrowed from the legendary Darth bearing the same appellation. I haven't researched that yet, but maybe someone can tell me.

One argument that I share with one of the members of the SWAction forums, is that when the holocron had fallen out of Bane's hand and was lying equidistant between him and Anakin, why didn't Anakin just use a force pull and grab it. Rather, he fumbles and tries to crawl to it, letting Cad get there first.

What gives with that?

But anyway, I look forward to watching this weekly once again!

Live Action Star Wars Show: Casting Underway!!!!

This is hot!!! MTV News is reporting that casting for the long awaited live-action TV series based in the Star Wars universe is underway. This could be very huge for Lucas. It could either re-vitalize his empire or bring it slowly crashing to the ground.

What do you think?
